"Wesley's extensive experience with commercial clients means that he has a keen eye for polish and finesse, and he does not hold back from giving you constructive criticism where needed. The more you give, the more you get from your mentoring experience with him, so I encourage anyone thinking of starting a mentoring relationship to really carve out some time to meet, discuss, reflect and practice.
Discussions with Wesley ranged from technique to running a business to portfolio critique and beyond - pretty much any topic or question you have in mind, he will generously share his experiences and point-of-view. Even if your personal style of photography (like mine) is not similar to Wesley's, he is still able to be relevant to your needs by providing a discerning eye, technical expertise, sounding board and solid practical advice on how to handle various aspects of running a photography business - even the nitty gritty like how to reply to client e-mails or what to wear to a shoot!”
Kerry Cheah on Wesley’s mentoring
“In Finding Your Photography Style workshop, Wesley has distilled his years of experience, lessons and wisdom, and imparts it generously throughout the sessions. As a result, the class sessions were every bit of enriching. They helped a lot with articulating my visual language as a photographer.
Observing the journeys of the others in the workshop, may it be the beginners’ or the seasoned professional’s, also proved to be very helpful in informing how I approach my own photography.
I highly recommend the workshop series to anyone trying to find, define and/or pinpoint their photographic style.”
Nikko Pascua on Wesley’s masterclass in finding one’s personal style
“Wesley’s workshop is very inspiring - He uses his wealth of knowledge in photography and content creation to guide me towards finding my very own style. We all have to start somewhere and most of us always start our photography with an open, curious mind. The classroom sharing settings allow all the participants to share their photos, and time and space is given to each of us to discuss about our photography ideas.
We learn from each other and from Wesley - he would patiently guide us to find our true passion and help us find out the common, underlying denominator of our favorite photos. From that, I could have a sense of direction towards the type of photography I wish to pursue. What he speaks about at length resonates with me - More often than not, our “best” photos reflect the innermost part of ourselves. I had an inkling about why I take my photos in a certain way, and his workshop pointed me towards that direction.
Photography is a journey of self-discovery and Wesley’s class is like a compass, slowly guiding me to discover more about myself, which helps me develop my own style. I daresay that since I have first attended his other classes in 2020, I have progressed significantly and signing up for this workshop has accelerated my growth in ways that are more than I expected!
Thank you for sharing your wealth of insights and experience with us, Wesley. I’ll always be looking forward to attend more of your classes and growth as a creator.”
Alvin Tan on Wesley’s masterclass in finding one’s personal style
“When I first met Wes, he asked, "How does this (mine) photo make you feel?" I was flabbergasted. Never had I thought about how photographs can emote and connect at a raw primal level.
Wes' andragogical approach and insights based on his vast experience set me on a transformational trajectory. No, more of a cathartical soul-searching journey never experienced before.”
Prof. SE Ong on Wesley’s mentoring
"The best thing I can say about Wesley as a photographer is he can take a tired, cranky, camera-shy writer and draw out a confident, authentic and happy person and images. That's also the best thing I can say about Wesley as a human being!"
Ovidia Yu, Writer
"It is always such a pleasure working with Wesley, and I have done so professionally and personally. Let's start with the personal stuff - I first met Wesley when a mutual friend suggested I work with him for my wedding photos. Wesley took the time to meet my then-fiancé and I prior to the big day to understand our very specific requirements and also to get to know us as a couple. I wanted the look and feel to be natural and the pictures had to capture the special moments of the day. On the day itself, his friendly manner made everyone feel at ease. To this day, I look back at the photos and I feel the immense joy of one of the most important days of my life.
On the professional front, I've worked with Wes in a couple very different scenarios. The first was as a supplier to my previous company. He was procured to take photos for my clients' events and corporate shots. He always went the extra mile to understand the different, and sometimes difficult, personalities and scenarios that he was shooting in order to get the best out of the subject/event. The clients were always pleased with this work.
The second time was when I stood in front of his camera for his book "100 Singaporeans." It's not easy being a subject- it can be awkward and make one feel very self conscious. Ever the professional, Wesley has a way about him that makes everyone feel comfortable and safe. He is very clear when providing direction and he is able to help the subject capture and channel the right emotion. The portraits captured in his book are honest and intense, like the photographer himself."
Dawn Chin, Asst Director PR Communications, NUS Business School
“Wesley's experience in various genres of photography is evident throughout our partnership. With portraitures, he is able to connect and interact with the subject and this helps to create a naturalness and ease that is visible in the photographs. In terms of landscapes and architectural shots, Wesley's strength lies in his holistic perspective and interpretation. The creativity he lends to the subject matter often is what makes the final output a great one.”
Kathrynn Koh, Corporate Office GHM
"I had the privilege of attending 2 courses 'Photographing People' and 'Studio Photography' conducted by Wesley Loh at Objectifs (Centre for Photography and Film) in 2014. Mr Wesley Loh was extremely clear in disseminating information to his students and has the ability to make professional photographic concepts easy for students with basic knowledge to grasp. He was also unabated in sharing practical information and the “tools of the trade”, no doubt garnered through his many years of experience in the field.
I completed the 2 courses finding myself with a good understanding of posing and lighting concepts, which will aid me in my photographic journey ahead. Finally, I wish to thank Wesley for his passion in his teaching and would encourage anyone who wish to take the next leap forward in improving their photography skills to enrol in his courses."
Terrence Chua Pengqui, Photography Enthusiast & Senior Associate at DP Architects Pte Ltd
"Wesley besides teaching us how to use the light and making good portrait pictures, he helped me/us to find our own way of taking pictures, finding our own style and helped us to realise what we like to do and were we are good at.
I started 1 year ago with taking photo's and I'm really looking for my own way of making photos/portraits. It helps if somebody with experience puts a mirror in front of you in order to help you to find this."
